Interview with robot technician Tatyana Volkova

04/ 10/ 2015

Intuitively, I think, everyone has a notion of what a robot is. Everyone has watched "Star wars", "Transformers", "Terminator" and other similar movies. By the way, here's an amusing fact: not everyone knows that the word "robot" is of Slavic origin; the Czech writer Karel Čapek introduced it as a shortened word for “worker” (robotnik).

These questions are often raised:  is it possible to call a remote controlled device a "robot”? is it possible to call an industrial machine a "robot"?  I like the definition on Wikipedia: A robot is a mechanical or virtual artificial agent, usually an electro-mechanical machine that is guided by a computer program or electronic circuitry.
